Cloud Migration
Your data centre lease or VMware renewal is coming. Know what moving costs before you sign again.
We work out what you run, what it would cost on AWS and what it takes to get there. Then we plan and deliver the move with your team. For qualifying customers, AWS funding programs cover much of the assessment and offset part of the migration.
Sound familiar?
- “Our VMware renewal nearly doubled. We signed for a year because we ran out of time to look at anything else.”
- “The data centre lease is up and the board wants options.”
- “We know AWS is an option. Nobody can tell us what it would cost to run, or to get there.”
- “Half our licensing bill is Microsoft and Oracle, and we’re not sure how much of it we still need.”
What good looks like
- A renew-or-move comparison you can put in front of the board, with today’s run cost against the cost on AWS.
- Every workload has a destination and a wave, from lift-and-shift to rebuild to retire.
- The move lands before the date that is forcing the decision, whether that is a renewal or a lease.
- Secure and compliant from day one with the landing zone built to the framework you answer to, such as APRA CPS 234, Essential Eight or ISO 27001, so the move closes gaps instead of opening new ones.
- Modernisation where it pays back and a straight move where it doesn’t.
- Your team can run what lands because they were part of building it.
How we do it
Assess
We inventory what runs and what depends on what, compare today’s cost with AWS, and build the business case and funding estimate.
Prove
We build the landing zone and move a first wave of low-risk workloads, so the runbook is tested before the big ones move.
Scale
Remaining waves, modernisation of the workloads that justify it, then handover and training.
Go licence-free where it makes sense
Moving is a chance to drop licences you no longer need. We look at each Windows Server, SQL Server and Oracle licence and tell you which can move to open alternatives such as Linux or Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, which should stay, and what the switch costs. That conversation usually happens inside the assessment.
Where to start
Migration Assessment
A fixed-scope assessment of your current estate and a costed plan to move it, timed against the date that matters to you.
What you get
- Inventory of servers, applications and dependencies
- Run cost today against the projected cost on AWS
- Wave plan sequenced against your renewal or lease date
- Funding available through AWS programs, and how to claim it
- A business case your leadership can decide on
Already moving?
Migration Delivery
For moves that have started and slowed down. We step in with your team, re-plan the remaining waves and run the cutovers until the estate is across.
What you get
- Remaining workloads re-planned into waves
- A strategy for the hard ones: replatform, refactor or retire
- Tested cutover runbooks and agreed windows
- Your team trained on the new environment as each wave lands
- AWS migration funding applied where you qualify
“Nuvrix gave us a clear, honest view of what modernising our platform would involve. They were upfront about what they didn’t yet know, and their work formed the foundation of the business case for our leadership team.”
Common questions
Is the assessment really funded?
AWS’s Migration Acceleration Program can fund the assessment and offset part of the migration cost for qualifying customers. Eligibility depends mainly on the AWS spend the migration is expected to create. We check whether you qualify on the first call, before you commit to anything.
We just renewed VMware. Are we too late?
No. A fresh renewal gives you time to plan properly instead of rushing. Most of the early work is assessment and planning, so that the next renewal is a choice rather than a default.
Is it all lift and shift?
No. Each workload gets the treatment that makes sense: moved as is, moved and modernised, rebuilt, or retired. We modernise where the saving or the risk reduction justifies the effort.
How disruptive is the move?
Migrations run in waves with tested runbooks and agreed cutover windows. The first wave is chosen to be low risk, so problems surface before anything critical moves.
Do we have to move everything?
No. Some workloads are better left where they are or retired. The assessment tells you which, and why.
